The Grattan Family Vacation Lodge is an attractive log home in a private wooded setting. On a serene hillside overlooking a small pond, we are located on a quiet country back road less than a mile off the highway. The property is nestled in the foothills of the Green Mountain Federal Forest in southeastern Vermont. Rustic but not primitive, we have five bedrooms including a bunkroom, three bathrooms (two with marble tops and fancy faucets), and it sleeps twelve in beds or more on the floor. There is also a three-car garage.
Our main floor has a large, well equipped country kitchen with dishwasher and other appliances, cooking ware and eating utensils. A sunny eating area with an Early American plank table seats ten or more looks out over the driveway and pond. The sitting room has a large fieldstone fireplace, TV and VCR and telephone with answering machine. This floor has another full bath, and a utility room with a washer and dryer.
Out the front door is a porch or deck, a nice spot for viewing the pond while sipping morning coffee or evening whatever. Or for eating lunch. The deck extends around the west end of the house, and is good for sunbathing. Alas! The pond is for viewing only; for insurance reasons no swimming nor other entry can be permitted.
Upstairs we have two queen bedrooms, two double/full bedrooms, a full bath and a linen closet. There is some room to squeeze in a sleeping bag or two in each room. There is an attic fan.
Downstairs we have a game room with a bumper pool table, a bunkroom with four bunks and space for cots or sleeping bags, a workshop and another bathroom. Also an equipment room and four cabinets for clothing, etc.
Our property comprises about two acres, backing up to the forest, with a small lawn, the pond, and undeveloped woods in front. The neighbors are 1/4 - 1/2 mile away if help is needed. You don't see the neighbors through the trees.
The family name Grattan loosely means "great place" in Old English, and we sincerely hope that you will find it just that: a proper venue for relaxing, doing healthy stuff or any combination thereof in the unque world that is Vermont.
