A warm welcome is assured at this Heritage Listed property (circa 1865). The Official Meet & Greet Committee are 5 very friendly golden retrievers - collectively known as The Goldie Gang. The house the gardens and the adjoining oast house are listed by the National Trust of Tasmania.
This beautiful old house has been restored to a very high level but is faithful the era in which is was built (i.e: Victorian). All guest rooms and common areas are filled with supurb antiques collected both within Australia and overseas. Concessions to modern living include central heating with reverse cycle air conditioning and underfloor heating in all bathrooms.
The house and gardens (set on 5 acres) were originally established by The Frankcombe Family who were leaders in the apple industry -the industry which gave Tasmania its name ""The Apple Isle"". In it's hey-day this grand country home was the centre of The Huon-D'Entrecasteaux social scene and in April of 1970 Queen Elizabeth Prince Phillip Charles and Anne all took tea in one of the drawing rooms. This room has now been converted to The Matilda Suite.
Our tariffs include a FULL BREAKFAST and all guests are provided with complimentary port and chocolates.
In 2002 we are proud to have won Tasmania's People's Choice Award. Also we are very proud of the fact that Matilda's of Ranelagh is rapidly gaining a reputation as one of the friendliest places to stay in Tasmania and also one of the best values for money.
Please come and stay with us - you are assured of a very warm welcome.
